The “quiet between” refers to the meaningful space existing between words, actions, and moments -- a place where nothing is explicitly stated, yet presence, emotion, and understanding thrive.
What would happen if we really listened to our inner voice and each other? What if we stopped judging ourselves and became comfortable with uncertainty? “The Quiet Between” explores these questions through the lives of teenage girls, touching on love, grief, friendship, and everything in between.
how this film found me
Writing this story was a personal journey. After losing a close friend, I began writing the film during the pandemic. I have always been drawn to the way emotions carry through time, and certain experiences resurface as we try to move forward. That idea became the starting point for “The Quiet Between”.
Trying to make sense of grief, I found value in externalizing my thoughts creatively. I scribbled ideas on anything I could find—scraps of paper, notebooks, paper towels. Ideas came at all hours, sometimes in the middle of the night. My parents gave me a vintage audio recorder so I could capture everything. That little device became the spark that helped the story take shape.
what I learned
After countless script developments over three years, I realized human connection is the most vital aspect. We often turn to the internet and social media for answers, especially in high school, and while social media increases interactions, constant comparison and stigmas overlooking mental health leads to further isolation. I set out to shape my characters around this paradox, focusing on their unspoken need for human connection and reminding people to listen to their inner voice.
I hope audiences take away that simply showing up can become an act of bravery.

This film is about the resilience of teenage girls. Their ability to against all odds, remain steadfastly true to themselves. I hope this film reaches teens and helps them feel less alone. If teenagers glean anything from "The Quiet Between", I hope it is this: Lean on each other, don’t be afraid to feel. Find and protect your peace, be kind and stick together.
